Just like the saying, to learn how to run you first have to crawl.
I don't say that you won't find the perfect mentor from the start but what I try to say that it's more important that you start than that you look for the perfect fit.
I talk about the chemistry between people. A mentor is someone you will bond and build a relationship of trust in a way that probably never experienced before.
If you don't like the mentor you start with then move on, its nothing wrong with that.
It's the best way as with a mentor you have to find what you are looking for and even though you might think you know what you are looking for I can assure you that when you find the right mentor you know it, as they will make you broaden your vision, support you and criticize you.
A great mentor will empower you to do more and become a better version of yourself.
The power of empowerment a good mentor doesn't just support you, he or she also points out when your wrong, and perhaps in an insightful way that you never experienced before. A way that makes you realize what you did wrong, why and how to change it, and learn from it.
What to expect, expect nothing and you will have a much better outcome, let the dialog and the work you do together with your mentor colour the canvas
Why did I choose to become a mentor?
When I look at my entrepreneurial journey I see it as a full circle.
It started with me starting my first company when I was 16, I soon realized that I thrived from challenges which put me into a situation where I wanted to expand my experience and knowledge.
I started my second company in a different business area as by doing so I would learn the most.
At the same time I was helping larger and larger organizations like fortune 500 companies, to overcome their obstacles and to evolve faster and smarter.
But I realized I wanted to do more. I wanted to empower more than just these companies. This is why I started to do keynote speaking and soon I found myself on the TEDx stage.
But again I was in a situation where I wanted to evolve even more.
So I started to write books, this opened up even one more world and it’s interesting to see how the books make you question your way of thinking and to finetune it. In some situations it was feeling as I turned sand to glass, that the focus required to write books gave me the strength to improve my previous knowledge and assumptions.
All this combined resulted in me getting more and more people reaching out to me for private sessions to help them overcome their obstacles and do more with their life, basically booking mentor sessions with me.
And it's such a great feeling to help people that feel lost or stuck or just need a helping hand to start walking in the right direction.
The energy both of us generate as we go through the obstacles and alternative solutions are something you could live on for days.
I believe that is what you should be looking for, someone where you feel that energy explosion, that makes you become version 2.0 of yourself.
As we are born into this world we get encouraged to evolve and we do it fast.
Soon enough we start kindergarten where we learn the rules of how to interact with other people and socializing. We join a school and we are given rules about how "everything" works, black or white, right or wrong. We are "taught" by memorizing everything rather than understanding things.
Just like we learned as an infant, to reach results we need to dare to take risks. Transforming from being a wantrepreneur to becoming an entrepreneur is the ability to take calculated risks and every now and then dare to do that jump when the risk calculations don't align with what your will and heart are telling you.
Being someone who breaks through barriers who overcome challenges and who strive for success means that you will be put into situations that not always have the expected outcome.
Being a "rule" breaker or someone who sees problems as challenges that are part of your learning curve, that by trying new things and not just following in the same footpath as everyone else will make you reach far greater results than the general public.
This is where a mentor or a business coach will help you change the world, reach beyond your expectation, and act as the tool that enables you.
Learn about your limits, know your limits, and erase them by adding someone else's experience to the mix.
Who benefits from having a mentor and why the short answer is everyone but most people don't have a mentor, probably because of the facts that I opened this article with. That we are taught to follow in other people's footpath and not to challenge the norm.
But if you look at the successful people I believe that all have had a mentor that helped them to reach closer to their full potential. Because reaching your full potential can’t be done by doing like everyone else, and it takes a lifetime of experience at least. But you can hack the system and save a lifetime by adding someone else's life full of experience. Someone that has been seeking just like you have, who have been
We all have someone we looked up to as we were younger, but the goal with a mentor is not that, not to have as an idol or to look up to but still someone that has more experience than you have and have gone through challenges that you might be heading towards.
The goal with a mentor is guidance, like a pathfinder or a flashlight or perhaps the breadcrumbs that point you in the direction with previously known least resistance and greatest reward. But someone who also listens to you and understands if you might want to pursue an alternative path where there might be more resistance but a possibility for even higher reward.
-Cirka 3 minuter in i denna video bjuder mötesledaren in deltagarna att reflektera över en fråga.

An interview with one of our speakers
Tips for things to listen to, read and learn that fits both the hammock, the boat and where ever you spend your vacation. Inspiration to make this summer a rewarding break for both body, mind and soul.
The interview with Johanna Wallin did not start as I expected. In meeting with Johanna, I had been delayed after online or telephone meetings back to back from the early morning. I felt quite scattered and expressed that I needed to create “more mental space”. Johanna suggested that we would use Emotional Fitness tools to include both mental/thinking and feelings and she offered to guide us through one of the tools from her newly released audio book, Pause - Breath - Kind Eyes. It was an experience that I will always remember. The Pause was a very easy-to-use tool that I feel I can use myself in similar situations in the future.
What did we do? For about 3 minutes, short but effective, Johanna guided us to turn our focus inwards and to let go of all the should´s and must´s; grounding us in our body, here and now. She ended the meditation with us looking at ourselves and the situation with kind eyes. This small, vital experience immediately created a secure and calm feeling within me. It also settled my thoughts which before had fluttered around everything I had done during the day and everything I needed to do for the interview. The Kind Eyes also created a special atmosphere that contributed to a good flow in our following conversation. It was all in all a good picture of the opportunity Johanna wants to convey to you here.
Take the chance to listen, read and learn something new and rewarding this summer. I see it as a perfect preparation for all sorts of future assignments and collaborations.
“I usually use the summer to both rest and develop in a way that is relaxing and fun. My favourite tip is to lie in the hammock or some other nice place while reading or listening to something that inspires or develops me”, says Johanna.
Her audio book is available in Swedish from June 26, www.newparadigmcoaching.se for you to have one of these moments this summer. In addition to authoring the book (translated the title is “Colour your work life canvas - inside and out”) Johanna Wallin is an artist, coach and meeting leader / educator in an international partnership, ElevateWork. The 6C spiral that the book revolves around is a solid, yet very flexible structure, to build your capacity to manage thoughts and feelings during an active work life. Johanna's handbook includes several guided meditations for more creativity and emotional awareness at work. You are guided to have a pause with kind eyes, to create more empathy with yourself and others, increase your emotional language and develop your creativity.
To continue building a work-life that suits you inside-out, Johanna shares with us one of ElevateWork’s courses suited particularly to these unique times, “How to lead effective and engaging online meetings”. About 3 minutes into the video, the facilitator asks a question that creates a pause in a similar way to the one we got before this interview. The question shifts the focus of the entire group from the ordinary, maybe fragmented or slightly unfocused awareness, to becoming fully present in the room. It also gets everyone ready to share about the theme of the meeting. This video, which is part of the course, shows you a simple way to make a big difference in how the meeting or the collaboration flows thereafter.
-“At ElevateWork, we focus on creating genuine contact with self and others as a basis for all sorts of creative, committed and outgoing work. I saw early in my own work life that the structures and processes we had used often failed to use the energy and creativity that exist in people. This is a waste of resources that could have the dire consequences of reduced engagement. This could even go as far as burnout or that you see no other way out than to leave and find a more sustainable work environment. “ says Johanna.
With the Emotional Fitness tools Johanna shares in her book you get ready and able to handle change and challenges. With Elevate Work´s course you get resources to manage your collaborations with others. Enjoy! A book, www.newparadigmcoaching.se and a course to make your summer a relaxing and rewarding break. Develop your emotional muscles, become flexible, strong and able to manage all sorts of new ways of working and collaborating in the future.
